Dr Swan graduated in Medicine at Melbourne University and completed his internship and residency at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne. He completed post graduate training in Anaesthesia at the Austin Hospital, and then qualified in Intensive Care after completing fellowships at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne and the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada, where he was Chief Fellow.

He has worked in Perth in public and private practice, and internationally in Canada, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, where he was part of the team commissioning the new Sidra Hospital in Doha and establishing their paediatric cardiac anaesthesia service. Dr Swan has a wide range of experience in anaesthesia for adults and children, with particular interest in major orthopaedic surgery, paediatric surgery, general and bariatric surgery, eye and ENT surgery, plastic surgery and endoscopy. He has comprehensive experience in the use of ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia as part of the management of postoperative pain.

He participates in the continuing professional development programme of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. He is accredited at the majority of private hospitals in Perth.
